Advantages and Disadvantages Essay: Living in a Large City

Many people in the province are moving out and eventually decide to live in a large city. This is due to the notion that they will have better opportunities which may result to a better life. The government had recently urged those living in the rural places to stay as cities are now congested.  But there are pros and cons in living in a large city. In this essay, I will try to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of living a large city and try to draw up some conclusions.

One of the benefits of living in a large city is that there are more places you can go and explore. Aside from that, work opportunities abound more in larger cities than in a smaller city.

Turning to the other side of the argument is the problem with pollution. There are more industrial plants and cars in a large city. These emit hazardous fumes that are detrimental to those who are exposed. Another disadvantage is that the cost of living is higher when living in a large city. Taxes are higher thus making the commodities more expensive.

To sum it up, there are advantages and disadvantages in living in a large city. The advantages of living in a large city are there are more places to go and explore and more work opportunities. However, we should also consider the disadvantages as living in a large city exposes you to more pollution and higher cost of living. In my opinion, everywhere is fine as long as you are comfortable with the place you're going to live in.

Advantages and Disadvantages practice: Children watching television

Let's start by looking at the advantages of children watching television. One of the main positives of children watching television is that the children are entertained and tend to behave more. Another advantage of watching television is that children can learn something from educational shows.

Turning to the other side of the argument are the disadvantages of children watching television. One of the biggest disadvantages is that we are fostering a lifestyle that is sedentary. Because children can watch television to entertain themselves, they would rather watch television at the comfort of their homes than play games outdoors. It can be that another major drawback is that children might imitate what they see and hear in the television that shows violence.

Living or Studying Abroad: Will You Go, or Not?

Due to very low compensation and lack of opportunities in the Philippines, many Filipinos would rather risk themselves and exhaust their remaining resources in order to have the chance to immigrate to other countries. Though some people who have the financial capability would only study abroad, they do it for the purpose of having experience as this would look good in their resumes. Both of which I believe is solely aimed towards for a better future.

Why does people want to live and study abroad especially Filipinos? If you're going to ask for my opinion why I would want to live and study abroad, I would say that it's because of monetary reasons and better work opportunities. Where in the Philippines could you see an opportunity to have a part time job even when you're just in high school? Maybe you could say that nowadays it's possible due to business process outsourcing companies who hires high school graduates but it wasn't the case years ago. Living and studying in other countries would be a journey towards self-discovery. It would test how you can manage to be on your own and how you can manage to be alone which I think I can do and possibly might like for I at times crave on quiet moments of peace and solitude.

However, the downside of living and studying abroad is the homesickness that you'll feel once the sense of adventure has been satiated. That vibrancy of life you first felt when you finally had that change of scenery had gone out and the sparks of inspiration that eventually sizzled down.  You’ll feel that all that's left is work. And more work. Because we are used to have people around us, we then suddenly realize that we are missing the warm smiles and the endless chatter of our talkative family members.

In conclusion, I would say that I would still go for living and studying abroad. As a single person, I want to explore more what’s out there in the world. I need to see what I could and could not do.

Advantages and Disadvantages of living and studying abroad

Living and studying abroad is a common dream for many of the Filipinos. Because when you are able to live and study in other countries, it makes you appear that you are in a higher social standing.

There are many advantages in being able to live and study abroad. One of which is that you will be able to live by yourself. Certain countries promote independence encouraging youngsters to be on their own once they have graduated in high school. Making your own decisions and choices equates to freedom to live and freedom to choose. For example, you'll just have to tend for yourself and not think of somebody else because in a typical Filipino family, every family member cares for everybody and it is very selfish of you if you just think of yourself. You will be the one in charge of your life and thinking about it is exhilarating and empowering. Living and studying abroad also gives you the opportunity of expanding your horizon and perspective about things for we interact with different nationalities, of different race and of different cultures.

However there are also disadvantages to it. As we Filipinos are brought up in typical traditional close-knit family ties, if we study and live abroad we couldn't help but feel the homesickness. That is why some of us Filipinos do not intend to stay there and go back afterwards in the Philippines. Another disadvantage is that as we don’t have helpers in other countries because they are costly unlike in the Philippines, we have to make and do the household chores on our own. We have to budget our time more wisely and this can be a little bit of adjustment in our part.

Overall, living and studying abroad is exciting and mind-boggling. If you have the audacity to break into your comfort zone and venture out into something new then I think that being able to live and study abroad enables you to be an independent person. It may not be easy and isn’t for the weak-hearted but it will definitely test your limitations and capabilities which you could eventually realize that you can.
