Due to very low compensation and lack of opportunities in
the Philippines, many Filipinos would rather risk themselves and exhaust their
remaining resources in order to have the chance to immigrate to other
countries. Though some people who have the financial capability would only
study abroad, they do it for the purpose of having experience as this would
look good in their resumes. Both of which I believe is solely aimed towards for
a better future.
Why does people want to live and study abroad especially
Filipinos? If you're going to ask for my opinion why I would want to live and
study abroad, I would say that it's because of monetary reasons and better work
opportunities. Where in the Philippines could you see an opportunity to have a
part time job even when you're just in high school? Maybe you could say that
nowadays it's possible due to business process outsourcing companies who hires
high school graduates but it wasn't the case years ago. Living and studying in
other countries would be a journey towards self-discovery. It would test how
you can manage to be on your own and how you can manage to be alone which I
think I can do and possibly might like for I at times crave on quiet moments of
peace and solitude.
However, the downside of living and studying abroad is the
homesickness that you'll feel once the sense of adventure has been satiated.
That vibrancy of life you first felt when you finally had that change of
scenery had gone out and the sparks of inspiration that eventually sizzled down. You’ll feel that all that's left is
work. And more work. Because we are used to have people around us, we then
suddenly realize that we are missing the warm smiles and the endless chatter of
our talkative family members.
In conclusion, I would say that I would still go for living
and studying abroad. As a single person, I want to explore more what’s out
there in the world. I need to see what I could and could not do.
